“REMEMBERING
REI”
A theatrical tribute to honor
the life of playwright Reinaldo Povod who in 1986, at
the age of 26, had his play “Cuba & His Teddy
Bear” performed on Broadway starring Robert De
Niro, Burt Young and Ralph Macchio. The late Reinaldo
Povod is still viewed today as a pioneer and distinctive
voice.
BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13TH - SUNDAY,
APRIL 24TH
Lower East Side, NY -- “REMBERING REI” was
created to pay tribute to an extraordinary artist, who
in his short life, made an immense impact on the theatre
world. His two pieces of work, which portrayed the lifestyles
and told the story of the people of the Lower East Side
in the 70’s, were gripping and honest.
The production will consist of selected scenes, original
monologues never published or heard and a visual and
audio tribute to Reinaldo’s life. In conjunction
with the Latino College Expo, Inc., a non-profit organization
that has provided educational access and scholarship
opportunities to the Latino community since 1990, this
production will serve as a vehicle to establish a support
and mentoring program, in the name of Reinaldo Povod,
that will develop the talents of a future Latino playwright.
This production will pay homage to a truly distinctive
voice that achieved extraordinary fame and respect in
his short time in the theater community.
The production will take place at Teatro La Tea, 107
Suffolk Street (between Rivington and Delancey Street)
in the Lower East section of New York. The dates for

Please take time to
review the enclosed synopsis. I hope that you will be
able and interested in supporting my efforts to acknowledge
and recognize this unique human being. This production
is really a form of respect to give homage to a truly
distinctive voice that achieved extraordinary fame and
respect in his short time in the theater community.
I hope that you accept this letter as an invitation
to attend our special VIP event on Saturday, April 16,
